The AMANDA Neutrino Telescope

نویسنده

چکیده

With an effective telescope area of order 10 m for TeV neutrinos, a threshold near ∼50 GeV and a pointing accuracy of 2.5 degrees per muon track, the AMANDA detector represents the first of a new generation of high energy neutrino telescopes, reaching a scale envisaged over 25 years ago. We describe early results on the calibration of natural deep ice as a particle detector as well as on AMANDA’s performance as a neutrino telescope.

From AMANDA to IceCube: Neutrino Astronomy at the South Pole

AMANDA at the South Pole has been the world’s largest high-energy neutrino telescope. It is now an integral part of the IceCube neutrino observatory presently under construction at the same location. A summary of the recent results from AMANDA is presented and a report on the first two construction seasons of the IceCube telescope is given.

Neutrino astronomy with IceCube and AMANDA

Since the early 1990’s, the South Pole station in Antarctica has been the site of the development and operation of the world’s first ice-Cherenkov neutrino telescopes, AMANDA and IceCube. The AMANDA telescope was completed in 2000 and has been used to search for the first high-energy neutrinos from beyond the earth. The successor to AMANDA, IceCube, will be a kilometre-scale neutrino and air sh...

Neutrino Astrophysics in the cold: Amanda, Baikal and IceCube

This talk reviews status and results from the two presently operating underwater/ice neutrino telescopes, NT-200 in Lake Baikal and AMANDA-II at the South Pole. It also gives a description of the design and the expected performance of IceCube, the next-generation neutrino telescope at South Pole.

Results from Seven Years of AMANDA-II

AMANDA is a first-generation high energy neutrino telescope, which has taken data at the South Pole in its final configuration since 2000. Results from seven years of operation are presented here, including observation of the atmopheric neutrino flux and searches for astrophysical neutrinos from cosmic ray accelerators, gamma ray bursts, and dark matter annihilations. In 2007, AMANDA was incorp...

The AMANDA Neutrino Telescope: Principle of Operation and First Results

AMANDA is a high-energy neutrino telescope presently under construction at the geographical South Pole. In the Antarctic summer 1995/96, an array of 80 optical modules (OMs) arranged on 4 strings (AMANDA-B4) was deployed at depths between 1.5 and 2 km. In this paper we describe the design and performance of the AMANDA-B4 prototype, based on data collected between February and November 1996. Mon...
